Preview: NEC out to extend perfect home run against Maroons

NEC FC host Maroons FC this evening at the MTN-Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, as matchday 23 of the Startimes Uganda Premier League comes to a close.

The hosts boast a perfect home record against Maroons and will be aiming to maintain that dominance.

NEC head into this fixture on the back of a 1-0 victory over URA FC in their previous league outing.

Maroons also come into the game with confidence after edging BUL FC 1-0 in their last match.

In the reverse fixture, Ivan Asaba gave Maroons the lead in the 75th minute before Emmanuel Ajo equalised just two minutes later, as both sides settled for a 1-1 draw.

Historically, the two sides have met five times, with NEC winning four and drawing once. A total of 13 goals have been scored in those meetings, averaging 2.6 goals per game.

NEC have also won all their home matches against Maroons, each by a 2-1 scoreline.

NEC have been particularly solid defensively, keeping eight consecutive clean sheets in all competitions, while scoring in six of those matches.

Maroons, meanwhile, have shown resilience in recent weeks. After back-to-back defeats to Kitara and SC Villa, they are unbeaten in their last five league games, winning three and drawing two. They have conceded just once in that run, keeping four clean sheets.

With both teams already out of the Uganda Cup, the focus shifts to securing a strong league finish and qualification for the FUFA Super 8 next season.

A win for NEC would lift them to sixth place with 40 points, level with Entebbe UPPC, though the latter hold a superior head-to-head record.

Victory for Maroons would see them climb to eighth place with 32 points.
