Preview

KCCA FC will travel to Bugonga on Tuesday to face Entebbe UPPC in matchday 24 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, seeking revenge and aiming to keep their title ambitions alive.

The visitors come into the game with renewed confidence following a narrow but important 1-0 victory over Kitara in their previous outing, a result that revived their title hopes.

Entebbe UPPC, on the other hand, ended a five-game winless run with a 2-1 victory over Buhimba, a result that boosted morale within the squad.

In the first leg, KCCA FC lost 1-0 to Entebbe UPPC at Lugogo, where Ambrose Kigozi scored the decisive goal.

Historically, this fixture has produced decisive outcomes, with no draws recorded in their seven previous meetings.

KCCA FC have won five of those encounters, while Entebbe UPPC have claimed two victories.

A total of 19 goals have been scored in those matches, averaging 2.7 goals per game.

Individually, KCCA FC striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe, nicknamed “Hunter,” leads the league’s scoring charts with 11 goals.

Entebbe UPPC forward Ambrose Kigozi follows closely with 10 goals, setting up an intriguing battle as both players look to strengthen their Golden Boot credentials.

The fixture also carries added narrative, with former KCCA FC head coach Abdullah Mubiru now in charge of Entebbe UPPC.

Several players, including Mustafah Mujuzi, Poloto Julius and Isa Mubiru, have previously featured for KCCA FC, adding an emotional edge to the contest.

A win for KCCA FC, coupled with a defeat for Vipers against Buhimba Saints United, would see KCCA close the gap to just one point, significantly boosting their title chase.

However, their immediate focus remains on securing all three points on the road.

For Entebbe UPPC, victory would complete a league double over KCCA FC and deal a major blow to their opponents’ title ambitions, while also strengthening their position in fifth place with 43 points.

Pre-match reactions

KCCA FC co-head coach Jackson Magera expressed confidence in his squad following their recent win.

“After the victory against Kitara, the boys are motivated and they know what they want. Winning the league is the goal. Despite some fatigue, the mood in the camp is positive and the players are ready,” he said.

“We have to stay focused, organised and committed to overcome UPPC. In some matches, you may only get one or two chances, so efficiency is key if we are to win.”

He added: “It won’t be an easy game. We are facing a team that beat us in the first leg and has some of our former players, but we are a professional side and fully focused on getting the result.”

Entebbe UPPC defender Mustafah Mujuzi also highlighted the team’s confidence heading into the match.

“We thank God we managed to correct some of our mistakes. Now we are focused on winning. The last victory has motivated us,” he said.

“This is my job, so there are no mixed emotions about facing my former club. I am here to help Entebbe UPPC win. We have trained well and we are ready for the game.”
