NEC FC 1-0 Mbarara City

NEC FC goalkeeper Hannington Sebwalunyo scored the only goal of the match as his side defeated relegation-threatened Mbarara City in a Uganda Premier League fixture played on Friday evening.

Sebwalunyo found the net from a rebound after his penalty had been saved, securing a 1-0 victory for NEC FC under the floodlights at Lugogo.

From the first whistle, NEC dominated proceedings, and in the 19th minute, Innocent Media saw his powerful effort strike the crossbar. Dina Makenga also hit the crossbar just a minute before halftime.

In the second half, NEC were awarded a penalty after Dina Makenga was brought down inside the box by Mbarara City. Referee Kimayo pointed to the spot.

Goalkeeper Hannington Sebwalunyo stepped up to take the penalty. Although his initial effort was saved, he reacted quickly to convert the rebound and give the hosts the lead.

Sebwalunyo has recently been influential for NEC, having also scored a late penalty in their 1-0 home victory over URA FC.

NEC nearly doubled their advantage in the 73rd minute, but Seremba’s effort struck the crossbar.

At full time, Sebwalunyo’s goal proved decisive, as NEC FC extended their impressive unbeaten run in the league this season.

NEC have now kept 11 consecutive clean sheets in all competitions, while Mbarara City remain winless in their last eight matches.

The victory moves NEC FC to 44 points in fifth place, while Mbarara City remain 14th with 17 points, just above the relegation zone.

In their next fixtures, NEC FC will visit BUL FC on April 28, while Mbarara City will host Express FC on the same day.
