Bottom-placed Calvary FC stunned KCCA FC with a hard-fought 1-0 victory in a Uganda Premier League Matchday 25 encounter played under scorching sunshine in Yumbe on Saturday.

Lawrence Olaboro scored the all-important goal in the second half to dent KCCA FC’s title hopes while boosting Calvary’s chances of survival.

KCCA FC dominated possession for large spells of the match, but Calvary goalkeeper Shukuru proved to be the difference as he made several crucial saves to keep the first half goalless.

In the second half, Olaboro broke the deadlock on the hour mark, sending the home fans into celebration.

KCCA FC pushed for an equaliser and possibly a winner, but Calvary remained well-organised defensively, with Shukuru again making key interventions to preserve their lead.

At full time, Calvary secured their first-ever victory against KCCA FC, marking a historic result for the hosts.

KCCA FC were significantly weakened, missing 12 players. Captain Herbert Achai was absent due to his wedding, while Gavin Kizito was suspended.

Fillbert Obenchan, Alex Yiga, Kennedy Muserero, Enock Walusimbi, Emmanuel Anyama, Alpha Thierry Ssali, James Mubezi, Umar Lutalo, Bright Anukani, and Derrick Nsibambi all missed out due to injuries.

The defeat leaves KCCA FC in second place with 51 points, four behind leaders Vipers SC, who have a game in hand against Entebbe UPPC.

A win for Vipers would extend their lead to eight points, with the potential to go 11 points clear when they face KCCA FC in their next fixture.

For Calvary FC, the victory extends their unbeaten run to four matches and moves them to 13 points, just four points shy of safety.

In their next fixtures, KCCA FC will host Vipers SC on April 29, while Calvary FC will travel to face Entebbe UPPC on the same day.

Elsewhere, Kitara FC defeated Lugazi FC 2-1 in Najjembe, while Maroons FC secured a 3-1 victory over Police FC.
