Crested Cranes and FC Nordsjælland goalkeeper Vanessa Edith Karungi has announced her engagement after accepting a marriage proposal from her fiancé.
On Sunday, April 26, Karungi shared the news on her official X account, posting: “I said YES to my FOREVER 💍❤️.”
It is believed that Karungi met her partner in Denmark, where she moved to pursue professional football after leaving She Corporate FC in 2021.
The couple recently visited Uganda, where her fiancé met her parents and also took time to explore the country’s natural attractions.
Karungi has in recent years faced challenges with a knee injury that required surgery and limited her playing time, including appearances for the Uganda women’s national team, the Crested Cranes.
Despite this, she has represented the national side in major competitions such as the WAFCON qualifiers and Olympic Games qualifiers.
Currently playing for Danish side FC Nordsjælland, Karungi has won several titles with the club and remains highly regarded for her game reading, excellent ball distribution, penalty-saving ability, and composure in one-on-one situations.
Her public announcement stands out, as it is still relatively uncommon for Ugandan female footballers to openly share personal milestones of this nature.
In recent years, a few players have made similar steps. In 2024, former Wakiso Hill WFC captain Sarah Namatovu, now based in the United States, introduced her partner to her parents.
That same year, former Kampala Queens player Rebecca Nasuuna also formally introduced her partner to her family.
Karungi’s football journey has seen her feature for Kyebambe Girls, St Mary’s SS Kitende, Kampala Junior Team, Olila High School, Mukono High School, Kakungulu Memorial School, She Corporate FC, B93 Copenhagen, and now FC Nordsjælland.
