Calvary vs Police, 4pm – Yumbe
Lugazi vs Mbarara City, 4pm – Najjembe
Lugazi FC host Mbarara City FC on Wednesday in Matchday 27 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, with both sides desperate to boost their chances of survival.
The hosts sit 12th on the table with 23 points, while Mbarara City are 14th with 20 points. A victory for either side would significantly strengthen their bid to avoid relegation.
Buhimba Saints United and Calvary occupy 15th and 16th positions with 15 and 13 points respectively, with only two teams set to be relegated this season.
Mbarara City come into the fixture on the back of a 2-1 victory over Express FC at Rwamwanja Stadium, courtesy of goals from Ian Amanya and Clinton Kamugisha.
Lugazi FC also secured a crucial 2-0 win away to Buhimba Saints United in Hoima, with Freedom Mungudit and Hamza Mulambuzi on target.
The first meeting between the two sides ended in a goalless draw, but this encounter presents a valuable opportunity for either team to claim maximum points and enhance their survival prospects.
Lugazi head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa will be facing his former side, having left Mbarara City in November last year to take charge of the Najjembe-based club.
Historically, Mbarara City have never lost to Lugazi, winning twice and drawing three times. However, they are yet to register an away victory against Lugazi.
Mbarara City will be without Marvin Busuulwa, while Muhammad Kanyike and Wyclif Ahumuza are back.
For Lugazi, Alfred Leku remains suspended for the rest of the season after receiving a five-match ban from the FUFA Disciplinary Panel for misconduct during the defeat to Kitara.
Richard Ayiko, Mafumu Dauson, and Yusuf Mafabi return from suspension.
However, Wasswa Paul and David Bagoole are doubtful, while Ashiraf Mulindi and Cuti Peter are ruled out due to injury.
