Police FC second assistant coach Ahmed Olima has vowed that his side will end Vipers SC’s unbeaten run on the pitch when the two teams face off on Tuesday in the Uganda Premier League.
Vipers SC have suffered only one defeat this season, which came through a boardroom decision after forfeiting their first-round fixture against Kitara FC during the controversial league format changes that were later scrapped.
However, the Venoms remain unbeaten on the field this campaign, something Olima believes Police FC can change at Kamwokya.
“It’s going to be a very interesting game because we want to finish in the top five this season, and we are under no pressure,” Olima said during the pre-match interview.
“We are playing at home, which is very important for us. We have prepared one of our best plans for this game, and it has come at the right time. It is a very important fixture as we aim to finish the season strongly.”
“We are comfortable, determined, and ready to face Vipers tomorrow. We have solutions, and we will be very proud to become the first team to beat Vipers on the field this season. We have been a different side this campaign, and we feel their unbeaten run can end here tomorrow.”
The Cops head into the match after a 2-0 victory over UPDF FC in their last home game, although they lost 1-0 to Calvary FC in their previous outing.
Vipers SC, meanwhile, drew 1-1 with KCCA FC in their last away league match before another 1-1 draw against URA FC at Kitende in their most recent fixture.
The Venoms last lost an away league match to Police FC nine years ago when the Cops secured a 2-1 victory in October 2017.
Earlier this season, Vipers SC defeated Police FC 4-1 in the reverse fixture at Kitende. Last season, Yunus Sentamu scored the lone goal as Vipers edged Police FC 1-0 away from home.
A victory for Vipers SC on Tuesday would take them to 63 points and leave them just one win away from securing the league title.
For Police FC, maximum points would move them into sixth place with 47 points, just three points behind their target position of fifth place.
