Vipers SC vs Kitara FC, 7pm – Kitende
———————————————————————————————
Vipers SC host fellow Uganda Premier League side Kitara FC in the second leg of the Stanbic Uganda Cup semi-finals on Friday evening at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
The two sides played to a goalless draw in the first leg, leaving everything to play for in the return leg as both teams seek a place in the final.
Goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu was the standout performer in the first leg, producing several brilliant saves to keep Vipers SC in the tie.
Both Vipers SC and Kitara FC head into the encounter struggling for form. Vipers are winless in their last four matches in all competitions, while Kitara FC are without victory in their previous three games.
Kitara FC need either a win or a scoring draw to progress to the final, while Vipers SC require a victory or a goalless draw before attempting to progress through penalties.
The last meeting between the two sides at Kitende ended in a chaotic goalless draw in the Uganda Premier League. Vipers SC remain unbeaten at home this season.
In 2024, Kitara FC eliminated Vipers SC from the Uganda Cup at the quarter-final stage after progressing on penalties following a 2-2 draw after extra time. Kitara went on to win the competition that season.
However, the following season, Vipers responded by knocking Kitara FC out in the semi-finals with a 2-0 aggregate victory before eventually defeating KCCA FC in the final to lift the trophy.
Kitara’s recent 3-2 defeat to Express officially ended their Uganda Premier League title hopes, leaving the Uganda Cup as their only realistic chance of silverware this season.
The winner on aggregate between Vipers and Kitara will face either SC Villa or URA FC in the final. SC Villa currently hold a 2-0 advantage from the first leg against URA FC.
Kitara welcome back goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige from suspension, and he is expected to start on Friday evening.
For Vipers, Denis Kiggundu is expected to return to the starting lineup ahead of Alfred Mudekereza after being rested in the league draw against Police FC.
Defender Enock Luyima remains sidelined with a sprained ACL injury, while the rest of the squad is available for selection.
