Uganda Learn Group Stage Opponents for 2026 CECAFA U-17 Girls’ Championship
The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has officially conducted the draw for the 2026 CECAFA U-17 Girls’ Championship.
The draw ceremony was held on Thursday at the FUFA Complex in Mengo, with seven nations confirmed for the tournament and drawn into two groups.
Defending champions Uganda were placed in Group B alongside South Sudan and Djibouti.
Hosts Tanzania headline Group A, which also includes Kenya, Somalia, and Sudan.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals.
The losing semifinalists will then face off in the third-place playoff match for the bronze medal.
The tournament will be hosted in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from June 13 to 23, 2026.
Uganda will open their campaign against South Sudan, while hosts Tanzania will face Kenya in the opening Group A fixture.
Uganda will be aiming to replicate their previous success in the competition after winning the title in 2019 under head coach Ayub Khalifah.
In addition to the U-17 Girls’ Championship, CECAFA is also expected to organise five other competitions this year, including the CECAFA Kagame Cup, the CAF African Schools Football Championship CECAFA qualifiers, and the CECAFA qualifiers for both the Africa Cup of Nations U-20 and U-17 tournaments.
