Uganda Premier League: Six Major Talking Points From Matchday 29

The Uganda Premier League Matchday 29 concluded on Wednesday evening with plenty of drama across different venues as the title race, relegation battle, and individual awards race all produced major talking points.

Here are the six biggest talking points from the matchday.

Vipers SC Clinch Eighth League Title

Vipers SC officially secured the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League title after defeating Maroons FC 3-0 at Wankulukuku.

Goals from Yunus Sentamu, Usama Arafat, and Karim Watambala guided the Venoms to victory and took them to 64 points, five ahead of second-placed KCCA FC, who played out a goalless draw with URA FC.

The triumph secured Vipers SC’s back-to-back league titles and their eighth championship since winning their maiden title in 2010.

The Venoms will officially be crowned champions on Saturday when they host Express FC at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Calvary and Buhimba Officially Relegated

Matchday 29 also confirmed the two clubs relegated from the Uganda Premier League.

Calvary FC and Buhimba United Saints were officially relegated after failing to secure the results needed to survive.

Calvary played to a goalless draw against UPDF FC in Bombo, while Buhimba suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Mbarara City.

With one game remaining, both sides can no longer mathematically escape relegation.

Golden Boot Race Goes Down to the Final Day

The race for the Uganda Premier League Golden Boot remains wide open heading into the final round of fixtures.

Entebbe UPPC striker Ambrose Kigozi scored in his side’s 1-1 draw against Police FC to take his tally to 12 league goals, just one behind current top scorer Ivan Ahimbisibwe of KCCA FC.

Vipers SC midfielder Karim Watambala also found the back of the net against Maroons FC to move to 11 goals.

Ahimbisibwe’s KCCA FC will host Mbarara City on the final day, while Kigozi’s Entebbe UPPC face BUL FC in Bugonga and Watambala’s Vipers SC host Express FC.

Vipers striker Usama Arafat also remains in contention with 10 league goals.

Emmanuel Kulanga Scores Goal of the Season Contender

Despite NEC FC suffering a heavy 4-1 home defeat to SC Villa, Emmanuel Kulanga stole attention with a sensational bicycle-kick goal late in the game.

The stunning strike earned applause from the NEC FC fans and officials in the VIP section at Lugogo.

The Uganda Premier League has already released a shortlist for the Goal of the Season award, although it remains unclear whether Kulanga’s strike will be added to the contenders.

Another Trophyless Season for KCCA FC

KCCA FC are set to finish another season without silverware.

The club’s last major trophy remains the 2018/19 Uganda Premier League title won under former head coach Mike Mutebi.

Vipers SC’s title triumph officially ended KCCA FC’s hopes of winning the league, while their Uganda Cup campaign had already ended following elimination by URA FC.

Pressure continues to mount on co-coaches Jackson Magera and Brian Ssenyondo, with sections of fans also questioning the club’s current leadership under CEO Anisha Muhoozi.

SC Villa End NEC FC’s Unbeaten Run

SC Villa handed NEC FC their first defeat of 2026 after securing a dominant 4-1 victory at Lugogo on Wednesday.

Before the defeat, NEC FC had gone unbeaten since December 2025 and had also kept 13 consecutive league clean sheets.

Charles Lwanga Neymar scored a brace for SC Villa, while Geoffrey Gaganga and Hassan Mubiru added the other goals. Emmanuel Kulanga scored NEC FC’s consolation goal.
