Uganda Premier League Crowning Day: Vipers Target Victory as Title Celebrations Await

Vipers SC will officially be crowned champions on Saturday when they host Express FC at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende in their final Uganda Premier League match of the season.

The Venoms, who already secured the league title mathematically, will be aiming to complete the celebrations with a victory in front of their home fans as they celebrate their eighth league crown.

The Kitende-based side sealed the title on the previous matchday after defeating Maroons FC 3-0 at Wankulukuku courtesy of goals from Yunus Sentamu, Usama Arafat and Karim Watambala.

Vipers remain unbeaten at home in the league this season and will face an Express side that has struggled for consistency throughout the campaign.

The Venoms defeated Express 3-0 in the first-round meeting, and the last time the Red Eagles visited Kitende, Vipers also secured a comfortable 3-0 victory.

It has now been five years since Express last defeated Vipers at Kitende, with John Byamukama scoring the only goal in that away triumph.

Express head into the encounter hoping to secure victory and also rely on favourable results elsewhere to finish in the top eight and qualify for the FUFA Super 8 tournament next season.

However, the Red Eagles will have to contain in-form attackers Watambala and Arafat, who have scored 11 and 10 league goals respectively this season and are still chasing the Golden Boot race led by Ivan Ahimbisibwe with 13 goals.

In 16 league meetings between the two sides, Vipers have registered nine victories while Express have won twice, with five matches ending in draws.

With gates set to open at midday, Vipers are expected to turn the crowning ceremony into a colourful celebration featuring music performances, entertainment, food, drinks, photo moments and other fan activities.
