Maroons FC defeated Lugazi FC 1-0 on the final day of the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season to finish eighth on the table and secure a place in next season’s FUFA Super 8 tournament.
Dickson Niwamanya scored deep into added time to hand Maroons a crucial victory over Lugazi at Najjembe.
The win also meant Maroons completed a league double over Lugazi FC and maintained their perfect winning record against them.
Coming into the match, Maroons were in 10th position with 35 points, two behind BUL FC and Express FC, who occupied eighth and ninth place respectively.

However, BUL FC suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Entebbe UPPC, while Express FC lost 2-0 to champions Vipers SC, results that allowed Maroons to climb into eighth place with 38 points and qualify for the FUFA Super 8 tournament next season.
The eight teams that will compete in next season’s FUFA Super 8 tournament are Vipers SC, KCCA FC, SC Villa, Kitara FC, NEC FC, Entebbe UPPC, Police FC, and Maroons FC.
Meanwhile, Calvary FC and Buhimba United Saints were relegated from the Uganda Premier League.
KCCA FC striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe finished the season as the league’s top scorer with 14 goals to win the Golden Boot award.
