Kitara FC defeated Uganda Premier League side SC Villa 2-1 to win the 52nd edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup and secure their second title in the competition’s history.
In the final played at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, Jimmy Kalema and an own goal from Diego Ssemugera handed Kitara victory, while Kato Ssemayange scored SC Villa’s only goal.
SC Villa made a bright start and took the lead in the 11th minute through defender Kato Ssemayange, who capitalised on a well-delivered free kick from captain David Owori.
Kitara responded swiftly and found the equaliser through an own goal by Diego Ssemugera following pressure from Gaddafi Wahab’s tricky corner kick.
The Royals continued to threaten and came close to taking the lead before halftime, but both Gaddafi Wahab and Jimmy Kalema were denied in one-on-one situations by SC Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago.
At the start of the second half, Jimmy Kalema, who is enjoying his maiden season in top-flight football, produced a stunning strike to put Kitara ahead and send their supporters into celebration.
SC Villa pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Kitara remained resilient and held on for a famous 2-1 victory.

At the final whistle, celebrations erupted among the Kitara players, technical team, and supporters as the Hoima-based side lifted their second Uganda Cup trophy.
The Royals won their maiden Uganda Cup title in 2024 after defeating NEC FC in the final at Wankulukuku under coach Brian Ssenyondo.
This time, head coach Wasswa Bbosa and his technical team guided the club to another historic triumph, ensuring Kitara ends the season with silverware.
By winning the Uganda Cup, Kitara FC has also secured qualification for next season’s CAF Confederation Cup, where they will represent Uganda on the continental stage
