Nicholas Mwere Joins Uganda Premier League Champions Vipers
Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have strengthened their squad with the signing of versatile defender Nicholas Mwere.
According to Swift Sports, Mwere has signed a three-year contract with the Venoms following the expiry of his deal with BUL FC at the end of the 2025-26 season.
The former Busoga United defender joins Vipers as the club continues preparations for the upcoming campaign and is expected to compete for a place in the starting lineup alongside Derrick Ndahiro and Enock Luyima.
Mwere is highly regarded for his versatility, having the ability to operate both as a left-back and a central defender. He is known for his excellent distribution, defensive awareness, physical presence, and ability to play long passes from the back.
The towering defender was also part of the Uganda Cranes squad that made history by reaching the quarter-finals of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
His arrival comes at a time when Vipers are restructuring ahead of the new season. Earlier on Sunday, the club confirmed the departure of head coach Ivan Jacky Minnaert following the expiry of his contract.
The Kitende-based side is expected to make further additions to the squad as it prepares for domestic and continental assignments, including participation in this year’s CECAFA Kagame Cup.
Vipers will also represent Uganda in the CAF Champions League after winning the 2025-26 Uganda Premier League title.
