Experienced Midfielder Leaves NEC After One Season

Uganda Premier League side NEC FC have parted ways with experienced midfielder Siraje Ssentamu, this website understands.

The former Vipers SC midfielder leaves the club after both parties mutually agreed to terminate his contract.

Ssentamu joined NEC FC on a two-year employment contract as a free agent from Vipers SC ahead of the 2025/26 season but struggled to secure regular playing time during his spell with the club.

The 31-year-old featured in only five Uganda Premier League matches last season, with injuries playing a significant role in limiting his involvement.

The hardworking midfielder suffered a serious injury during NEC FC’s Matchday 8 league encounter against Calvary FC.

He subsequently underwent successful surgery to treat a right eyelid laceration and a right frontal bone (supraorbital) fracture.

The injury sidelined him for a considerable period and affected his ability to establish himself in the team.

Despite his brief stay at NEC, Ssentamu remains one of the most decorated midfielders in Ugandan football.

During his time at Vipers SC, he won five Uganda Premier League titles and four Uganda Cup trophies.

More departures are expected at NEC FC in the coming weeks as the club continues to reshape its squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The Diehards finished fifth in the Uganda Premier League last season and were also eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
