Kalule Shines as Kyadondo Hold Defending Champions Buweekula in Masaza Cup Opener

Saturday, June 13

Buweekula 0-0 Kyadondo

Defender Traver Kalule delivered a commanding performance as Kyadondo held defending champions Buweekula to a goalless draw in the opening match of the 2026 Airtel Masaza Cup at Mubende National Teachers College Grounds.

The match was graced by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, who attended as the chief guest.

Kalule, who recently joined Kyadondo from Buvuma, captained the side and played a pivotal role in helping the Kaggo’s Sons avoid defeat against the reigning champions. His outstanding display earned him the Man of the Match award.

Buweekula enjoyed the majority of possession and attacked with intent, but Kalule marshalled the Kyadondo defence superbly alongside goalkeeper Ashiraf Bwabye, formerly of the URA FC Junior Team.

Kyadondo looked the better side in the opening half, with skilful winger Kenneth Ssebaduka causing problems for the hosts with his pace and creativity.

However, the introduction of Martin Ssegiya at the start of the second half sparked Buweekula into life.

The hosts gradually took control of proceedings, with Livingstone Kaweesi, Denis Konde and defender Paul Kiradda becoming increasingly influential.

Their pressure kept Kalule and the Kyadondo defence busy throughout the second period, while goalkeeper Bwabye produced two crucial saves to preserve the clean sheet.

Despite several promising opportunities at both ends, neither side could find a breakthrough as the contest ended in a stalemate.

The draw sees both teams pick up a point to begin their Bulange Group campaign, while fellow group members Buddu, Buluuli, Busujju and Buvuma will commence their campaigns next weekend.

Kyadondo will take confidence from a disciplined defensive display against the defending champions, while Buweekula will be left ruing missed opportunities after failing to make home advantage count in the tournament opener.
