Teen Cranes Hammer Djibouti in CECAFA U17 Women’s Championship

The Uganda U17 Women’s National Football Team, the Teen Cranes, got their 2026 CECAFA U17 Women’s Championship campaign off to a flying start with a resounding 13-0 victory over Djibouti.
In the match played at the Azam Complex in Tanzania, Shadia Nabirye led the scoring charts with a hat-trick, while Justine Ayerango and Immaculate Acen each scored a brace. Flavia Yagala, Rashida Nakalema, Tracy Nabalanzi, Lydia Nameseruka, Brenda Nassaka, and Vicky Atyeronimungu were also on target as Uganda cruised to a comprehensive win.
The Teen Cranes asserted their dominance from the opening minutes, overwhelming their opponents with relentless attacking football and clinical finishing. Their impressive display saw them score 13 unanswered goals and secure the biggest victory of the tournament so far.

The emphatic result sends Uganda to the top of Group B and provides a significant boost to their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.
Uganda will return to action on Tuesday when they face Zanzibar at KMC Stadium in their second group-stage match.
The top team from each group will qualify for the semi-finals of the competition.
Uganda are the defending champions of the CECAFA U17 Women’s Championship, having won the title in 2019 under the guidance of coach Ayub Khalifah. The Teen Cranes will be aiming to retain their crown and continue their strong tradition in regional youth football.
