Akabwai Guides Kampala City to Beach Soccer League Title

Geoffrey Akabwai guided Kampala City Beach Soccer Club to a successful defence of their Beach Soccer League title after defeating St Lawrence University in the final over the weekend.

In the match played at Bamboo Gardens Beach Soccer Arena in Kasanje, Kampala City secured a convincing 5-2 victory to retain the championship.

Godfrey Edweu and Sharif Opuli each scored a brace, while Ali Hassan added the fifth goal to seal the triumph for Kampala City. Jonathan Kikonyogo and Sharif Lubega were on target for St Lawrence University.

The title was a significant achievement for Akabwai, who, during his playing career, never won the Beach Soccer League despite reaching the semi-finals on several occasions with Kampala International University. He also suffered heartbreak in 2017 when he lost the final as a coach.

Kampala City had topped the regular-season standings with 33 points from 14 matches, winning 11 games to finish as the best team ahead of the playoffs.
