Mubiru’s Villa Chapter Ends with Azam Switch

SC Villa forward Hassan Mubiru has completed a move to Tanzanian Premier League side Azam FC, this website understands.

Mubiru, who is already in Tanzania, has signed a two-year employment contract with the Dar es Salaam-based club.

Despite having one year remaining on his contract with SC Villa, the forward was reportedly unwilling to extend his stay at the club, prompting the Jogoos to cash in on the player rather than risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of next season.

Several clubs from across the region, including Singida Black Stars, APR FC, and AFC Leopards, were interested in signing Mubiru. However, Azam FC ultimately won the race for the highly-rated attacker.

Although he scored four goals and registered three assists in the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season, Mubiru’s influence went beyond statistics.

His creativity, dribbling ability, and individual brilliance consistently caught the eye and attracted interest from some of the region’s biggest clubs.

The talented forward also played a key role in SC Villa’s run to the Stanbic Uganda Cup final, where they eventually lost to Kitara FC.

His outstanding performances throughout the campaign earned him a place in the official Uganda Premier League Team of the Season, further cementing his status as one of the league’s most exciting attacking talents.

The left-footed attacker also recently earned a call-up to the Uganda Cranes squad for the planned international friendly matches in Morocco and Zanzibar, although the fixtures were later called off.
