Wakiso Zone USSSA Ball Games II Qualifiers Kick Off in Mwererwe

The Wakiso Zone qualifiers for the USSSA Ball Games II officially got underway on Wednesday, June 17, in Mwererwe, with schools competing in various disciplines including U17 boys’ football, netball, volleyball, and handball.

Schools from different parts of Wakiso District, including Entebbe, Nansana, Nsangi, Wampeewo, and Matugga, among others, are taking part in the competition, which serves as a qualifier for the national championships scheduled to be held in Gulu next month.

In boys’ football, Ambrose Oboyi starred for Buddo SS with four goals as they thrashed City Land High School 8-0. Sserubiri Carrick Richard, Rahim Kato, Eric Mawanda, and captain Shafic Kitimbo were also on the scoresheet in the dominant victory.

Kyadondo SS enjoyed a perfect start to the tournament, winning both of their matches. They first defeated Wampeewo Ntake 2-0 courtesy of goals from Gerald Ochen and Mawanda Kizza.

In their second fixture, Kyadondo SS overcame St Michael International 2-0. Mawanda Kizza was again on target, while Arsene Odinga added the second goal to maintain the school’s impressive start to the competition.

The Matugga-Kiryagonja-based side, coached by Ayub Kiiza, remains one of the standout teams after the opening day.

A total of 16 teams have been drawn into four groups, with matches continuing on Thursday, June 18, before the qualifiers conclude on Friday, June 19.

The best-performing schools will earn the right to represent Wakiso Zone at the USSSA Ball Games II National Championships, which will be hosted by Sacred Heart Secondary School in Gulu.

Did the qualifiers have a good turnout? I remember playing in similar tournaments back in the day.
