Mbalangu Nearing New Managerial Appointment
Experienced coach Hussein Mbalangu is in advanced talks with Uganda Premier League side UPDF FC over the club’s vacant head coaching position.
According to reports, Mbalangu and the club have already held positive discussions, with negotiations progressing well as both parties work towards reaching an agreement.
Mbalangu recently left URA FC following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season. Since his departure, he has attracted interest from Kigezi HomeBoyz and Ntugasaze FC, but the two clubs were unable to agree personal terms with the experienced tactician.
UPDF FC recently held their Annual General Meeting, where improving the team’s performance was identified as one of the club’s key priorities ahead of the new season.
The Army side narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing just one point above the drop zone under head coach Alex Gita.
Should the move materialise, Mbalangu is expected to be given full responsibility over the club’s recruitment as UPDF begin preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.
The Uganda transfer window officially opens on Wednesday, July 1, and will close on September 19, giving clubs ample time to strengthen their squads.
The 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season is scheduled to kick off on August 28, with the fixtures expected to be released a month before the opening round.
