OFFICIAL: Hussein Mbalangu Appointed UPDF FC Head Coach
Uganda Premier League side UPDF FC have officially unveiled Hussein Mbalangu as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The Bombo-based club confirmed the appointment through their official communication, bringing an end to speculation surrounding Mbalangu’s future.
Earlier, this website reported that the experienced tactician had agreed personal terms with UPDF FC, and the move has now been made official.
Mbalangu joins the Army side after leaving URA FC at the end of the 2025/26 season and succeeds Alex Gita as head coach.
The experienced coach holds a CAF A Coaching Licence, the minimum qualification required for Uganda Premier League head coaches under FUFA regulations. He is expected to use his vast experience to strengthen the club as they prepare for the new campaign.
UPDF narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing just one point above the drop zone. Mbalangu has been tasked with rebuilding the squad and improving the club’s performances in the 2026/27 season.
Reports indicate that the former URA FC coach will have full authority over player recruitment during the transfer window, which officially opens on Wednesday, July 1, and closes on September 19, 2026.
Throughout his coaching career, Mbalangu has managed several clubs, including NEC FC, URA FC, Arua Hill SC, Mbarara City FC, Blacks Power FC, and Mogadishu City Club.
