Defending champions Vipers SC suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Entebbe UPPC in their opening game of the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season.

An own goal from Vipers defender Kevin Dasylva Bady in the first half handed Entebbe UPPC a memorable victory away from home.

Bady miscalculated a cross from Thomas Ochungu in the 32nd minute and inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, handing Entebbe UPPC the lead and ultimately costing his side all three points.

It was a disappointing start for Vipers, who went unbeaten on the pitch throughout last season as they secured the league title.

Against Entebbe UPPC, the Venoms looked rusty and lacked ideas in the final third despite enjoying home advantage.

Gusto Mulongo had a few half-chances, while Farouk Miya struggled to make an impact. Promising midfielder Joel Serunjogi was also kept quiet for much of the game before being substituted in the second half.

It is a frustrating start for new head coach Denis Lavagne, who will now have to work quickly to address the shortcomings and prevent early-season pressure from building.

For Entebbe UPPC and head coach Abdallah Mubiru, it was an excellent start to the campaign. The visitors will now look to build on the result as they aim for an improved league finish this season.
