Basangwa Brace Fires NEC to Comeback Win Over URA

Forward Richard Basangwa netted a brace as NEC FC staged a remarkable comeback to beat URA FC 4-1 at home on Tuesday afternoon.

In the game played at Lugogo Turf, URA FC took an early lead through Isma Mugulusi just two minutes into the first half.

However, the lead lasted only 13 minutes before James Jarieko combined with Enrique Lubwama in a one-two, with the former finishing past goalkeeper Crispus Kusiima to level the matters.

Before the end of the first half, NEC FC scored twice in quick succession through Richard Basangwa and Enrique Lubwama.

Basangwa put the hosts ahead in the 42nd minute, tapping into an empty net after Enrique Lubwama had provided the assist.

At the death of the first half, Lubwama made it 3-1 for the hosts, scoring from the rebound after Emmanuel Ajo’s initial attempt had been saved.

In the second half, Lubwama completed a hat-trick of assists, setting up Basangwa just four minutes after the restart to put NEC FC in a commanding position.

The brace takes Basangwa to four league goals in four games, making him the current top scorer.

Elsewhere, BUL FC rallied from behind to beat stubborn Blacks Power 2-1 at home, while at Wankulukuku, SC Villa defeated newcomers Kigezi HomeBoyz 3-0.

The victory sends NEC FC to second position with 10 points, two behind table leaders BUL FC. SC Villa also move to 10 points, level with second-placed NEC FC.

In their next game, NEC FC will host Express FC on October 8.

Matchday 4 continues on Wednesday as KCCA FC host Kataka, Entebbe UPPC visit Mbarara City in Kamwenge, while Lugazi welcome Police FC in Najjembe.
