Kawempe Begin Title Defence With Comfortable Win Over Jinja United

Reigning champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC have made a perfect start to their 2026-27 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League title defence after easing past newcomers Jinja United WFC 3-0 on Saturday.

Latifah Nakasi, Belinda Nabawanuka and an own goal from Aisha Naigaga handed the hosts a deserved victory in the opening game of the new season.

Playing at their new home, St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende, last season’s joint-top scorer Latifah Nakasi needed just two minutes to put Kawempe in front.

The hosts doubled their advantage a minute later when Aisha Naigaga turned the ball into her own net, giving Kawempe a comfortable 2-0 lead inside the opening three minutes.

Jinja United gradually settled into the game and became more organised defensively as they worked to prevent Kawempe from extending their advantage.

The visitors managed to hold out for the remainder of the first half, heading into the break two goals down.

Kawempe made changes in the second half, and the adjustments paid off in the 69th minute when Belinda Nabawanuka marked her debut by extending the hosts’ lead.

At the final whistle, Kawempe collected maximum points and made a strong statement as their quest to retain the league title got underway.

Kawempe will next visit She Maroons in Luzira on Saturday, September 26, while Jinja United Women FC will host She Corporate on the same day.

Matchday 1 concludes on Sunday with five games as newcomers URA Ladies host KCCA Women, Makerere welcome Amus College, Uganda Martyrs visit Lady Doves in Masindi, She Corporate host St Noa in Njeru, while Rines welcome Maroons in Wakiso.
