The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) is set to appoint Asefa Firew Haile Gabreal as Sheryl Botes’ successor as head coach of the Crested Cranes.
Sports Light Uganda understands that the former KCCA Women FC coach is expected to be named the new head coach of the national women’s team.
Asefa left KCCA Women following the expiry of his contract in September this year, but he could now be heading for an even bigger role and greater responsibilities.
The Ethiopian tactician won the FUFA Women Super League and the FUFA Women’s Cup with KCCA Women, formerly known as Kampala Queens. His familiarity with the players could prove valuable as he takes on the national team role.
Reports also indicate that former Crested Cranes head coach Faridah Bulega could be given the opportunity to serve as one of the assistant coaches.

On Monday, September 28, the Crested Cranes officially began preparations for their double-header against Zambia in the 2028 Olympic qualifiers.
During the training session held at MTN-Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, 18 locally based players took part, with more players expected to join the camp soon.
The session was led by Ahumuza Colines, who served as Botes’ assistant coach. Colines said the players had shown commitment, which he believes will help the team perform well.
Uganda will face Zambia in the first leg on October 8, with the return leg scheduled for October 13.
