VIDEO: Crested Cranes Goalkeeper Set to Miss Zambia Encounter After Kariakoo Injury

Crested Cranes goalkeeper Ruth Aturo is set to miss Uganda’s Olympic qualifiers against Zambia after suffering an injury while playing for Simba Queens on Wednesday.

Aturo was stretched off the pitch during Simba Queens’ Community Shield semi-final against Yanga Princess at KMC Stadium.

The goalkeeper started for Simba Queens and played 53 minutes before picking up an injury following a collision with a Yanga attacker.

Video footage appeared to show Aturo sustaining an injury to one of her knees, leaving her in considerable pain before she was withdrawn on a stretcher and replaced by Janeth Shija.

The injury has raised concerns over her availability for the Crested Cranes’ Olympic qualifiers against Zambia in October.

Uganda will face Zambia in the first leg on October 8, with the return leg scheduled for October 13.

Aturo was among the players summoned to the Crested Cranes squad, but the injury could now force the technical team to look for a replacement.

The Crested Cranes are already in camp and have completed two training sessions at MTN-OMONDI Stadium, Lugogo, as preparations for the Olympic qualifiers continue.

Meanwhile, Viviane Corazone, Senaf Demise and Marry Siyame each scored for Simba Queens as they defeated Yanga Princess to reach the Community Shield final.

Aturo’s Simba Queens will face JKT Queens in the final, a side they defeated last season to win the trophy.
