Mulindwa Calls on Local Governments and MPs to Support DFAs

FUFA Executive Committee Member Rogers Mulindwa has called on local governments and Members of Parliament to support District Football Associations (DFAs) amid growing concerns over the lack of financial support for grassroots football.

The issue of funding for DFAs has recently attracted widespread concern, with several District Football Association officials calling for greater support from the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).

The matter was also tabled during the FUFA Annual General Meeting (AGM) by Buikwe DFA Chairman Ali Kiwanuka, who spoke on behalf of other DFA chairpersons.

Speaking on the matter, Mulindwa urged LC5 chairpersons, local councils and area Members of Parliament to consider supporting DFAs through their respective budgets.

“For sure, we have tried to do many things as a Federation through President Magogo. We have approached the government on many occasions, and they have answered us, but it is still limited to handle everything,” Mulindwa said.

“We understand that DFAs need to be supported, but FUFA is facing a shortage of funds. We will support them, but not with immediate effect. However, there are other ways besides FUFA.”

Mulindwa suggested that local governments and Members of Parliament could contribute directly towards supporting grassroots football in their respective districts.

“If LC5 chairmen and councils include an amount like five million shillings in their budgets, and each of the area Members of Parliament contributes about two million shillings a year, DFAs will get some relief,” he added.

“We know these are the youths who mostly support you during elections, and this is an important matter that directly supports these young people and the growth of football in the country.”

Meanwhile, Buganda Regional Football Association Chairman Andrew Kawesa promised to raise the matter directly with FUFA President Moses Magogo during the upcoming FUFA Assembly.

“When we meet him as Buganda Region during the upcoming FUFA Assembly, we will discuss the matter,” Kawesa said.

“It is a big concern that needs to be handled, but our bosses are telling us that they are out of budget to support lower-division football and the DFAs.”
