Newcomers Ntugasaze defeated Mbarara City 1-0 on Wednesday, October 7, to register their first victory of the season in the Uganda Premier League.
Jacob Opar scored the only goal of the game, handing Ntugasaze a narrow but important maiden victory in the top flight.
Mbarara City, who are yet to win or score a league goal this season, had hoped to pick up a positive result against a winless Ntugasaze side, but the hosts secured all three points.
While searching for an equaliser, Mbarara City captain Arinda Ambrose was shown a red card, leaving the Ankole Lions with 10 players and giving Ntugasaze an added advantage.
The Ankole Lions will hope to register their first win and score their first goal of the season on Sunday when they host fellow newcomers Blacks Power.
Meanwhile, Ntugasaze will host KCCA FC on Tuesday, October 13.
Elsewhere, SC Villa needed a late equaliser from Najib Yiga to cancel out Ali Ssentamu’s goal and secure a point against Kataka in Bukedea.
In Hoima, Edward Namaasa’s first-half goal was enough to hand Kitara maximum points against Kigezi HomeBoyz.
The defeat leaves Kigezi HomeBoyz at the bottom of the table with one point.
Meanwhile, Fred Amaku, Dickson Niwamanya and Ogama each scored a goal as Maroons defeated Lugazi FC 3-0 at Wankulukuku. Lugazi’s Francis Odongo was shown a red card.
Matchday five of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League continues on Thursday, with Blacks Power hosting league champions Vipers SC, while Express FC will face NEC FC at Lugogo.
