Ghana Sack Otto Addo Two Months Before 2026 World Cup

Ghana have parted ways with head coach Otto Addo just two months before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The decision follows a 2-1 defeat to 2014 World Cup winners Germany in an international friendly played last night. The loss came on the back of a heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria last Friday.

Addo, who had been serving his second stint as Ghana head coach since March 2024, now leaves the role as the Ghana Football Association begins the search for a new manager.

In a statement, the Ghana Football Association confirmed the development, saying it had “parted ways” with Addo, with the decision taking immediate effect.

“The Ghana Football Association will communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars in due course,” the statement added.

Despite boasting top talents such as Antoine Semenyo and Mohammed Kudus, Ghana endured a disappointing period under Addo, including failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Ghana have been drawn in a group alongside England, Panama, and Croatia. They are scheduled to face Panama in their opening match on June 18.

The tournament will be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States from June 11 to July 19.
