Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards continue to play a vital role in inspiring athletes, with Hassan Alwi emerging as one of the standout performers for the month of March.
After being named the best rally driver of the month at an event held at Nanjing Restaurant, Alwi, accompanied by his co-driver, expressed his delight.
“It has been a great surprise to be recognized. Thanks to Fortebet, we are very honoured to be chosen. We want to continue raising the Ugandan flag, and this is a kind of motivation,” he said.
Alwi earned the accolade following his victory in the opening round of the KCB National Rally Championship, where he outperformed strong competition from Oscar Ntambi, who went on to win the Africa Rally Championship 2 category, and Moses Lumala, who finished second at the NRC opener in Mbale.
The awards also recognised excellence in other sports. In athletics, Jacob Kiplimo returned to the podium, edging Sarah Chelangat and Abbey Chelangat to claim the monthly accolade. His performance at the World Half Marathon in Lisbon proved decisive.
Kiplimo, who also won the award in January for his cross-country performance in Tallahassee, Florida, set a new world half marathon record of 57 minutes and 20 seconds on March 8, securing his third Real Stars athletics award in six months.

In boxing, David Ssemujju Kavuma claimed top honours after successfully defending his WBO Asian Pacific and Japanese National welterweight titles.
He edged Farahat Manirola, who had been aiming for his third Real Stars accolade.
Saiya Nsubuga, who was named the best boxer at the recently concluded Intermediate Boxing Championship, finished third, behind Manirola, who made history as the first Ugandan boxer to win a bout on Russian soil.
In football, women dominated the category, occupying all top three positions. Maureen Kizza of Uganda Martyrs Lubaga finished ahead of Kenyan Marion Serenga, who features for St. Noa Girls in the Uganda Women Super League, and Jovia Nakagolo of Kawempe Muslim Ladies.
The event was attended by representatives from sponsors, including Jude Colour Solutions and Fortebet, as well as winners and their representatives who received awards on behalf of absent recipients.
