Ivan Mayanja scored the decisive goal as Maroons FC defeated BUL FC 1-0 in Matchday 22 of the Uganda Premier League, securing their first home victory over BUL in six years.
The match, played at Luzira on Wednesday, saw Maroons claim all three points courtesy of Mayanja’s first-half strike.
Maroons nearly took an early lead inside the opening 10 minutes when Mayanja was denied by BUL goalkeeper Adrine Isabirye, who produced a double save to keep the scores level.
However, 10 minutes later, Mayanja made no mistake, scoring a well-taken goal to give the hosts a deserved lead.
The goal proved to be the difference, with BUL, coached by Alex Isabirye, going into the break trailing.
At the start of the second half, BUL introduced their top scorer Karim Ndugwa in search of an equaliser. Despite making four additional changes, the visitors were unable to break down a well-organised Maroons defence.
Mayanja’s first-half effort ultimately secured Maroons their first home league win against BUL since 2020, ending a six-year wait.
Speaking prior to the match, BUL head coach Alex Isabirye had acknowledged the difficulty of picking maximum points in Luzira, a concern that proved accurate as the hosts delivered a narrow but deserved victory.

The win lifts Maroons to 29 points in ninth position, just one point behind BUL.
In their next fixtures, BUL will face URA FC away on 16 April, while Maroons will travel to take on NEC FC on 18 April.
Matchday 22 continues later this evening as Express FC host Police FC at 8pm at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
