UPL: Kitara Thrash Buhimba Saints in Historic Bunyoro Derby

Kitara FC thrashed Buhimba Saints 4–0 in the first-ever Uganda Premier League match played at Hoima City Stadium on Friday.

George Senkaaba and Living Kabon each scored a brace to hand Kitara a convincing victory in front of a full-capacity crowd at Hoima City Stadium.

Just five minutes into the game, Senkaaba gave the hosts the lead. Living Kabon delivered a powerful free kick from outside the box that forced goalkeeper Jamil Kiyimba into a save, but the well-positioned Senkaaba calmly tapped in the rebound from close range.

Seven minutes later, Senkaaba doubled Kitara’s lead with a superb header from a well-delivered corner by Gadafi Wahab, taking his league goal tally to four this season.

After conceding twice within the opening 13 minutes, Buhimba Saints made an early change in the 22nd minute as goalkeeper Jamil Kiyimba was replaced by Ronald Mutebi.

The change in goal did little to stop Kitara’s momentum. Kabon extended the lead to 3–0 in the 34th minute with a direct free kick before adding his second and Kitara’s fourth just before halftime.

The goal marked his fourth in the last four matches for Kitara since returning during the mid-season transfer window.

In the second half, Buhimba Saints returned more organized and managed to avoid conceding further goals, but they failed to score even a consolation.

The victory moves Kitara FC to 46 points in second place, closing gap to one point behind the table leaders Vipers SC

Buhimba Saints, meanwhile, remain in the relegation zone with just 15 points. In other matches, BUL FC shared the spoils with Mbarara City in a goalless draw, while Senoga Kagawa scored the decisive goal as NEC FC defeated Police FC in Kamwokya.
