Uganda will this afternoon face Senegal in the final of the 2026 CAF African Schools Football Championship at Ngoni Stadium.

Representing Uganda is St. Mary’s Kitende, who will be playing in their first-ever final of this championship.

Following an impressive group stage performance, where the team collected seven points and scored nine goals from two wins and a draw, Uganda progressed to the semi-finals. They faced Benin, securing a place in the final after a 4–3 victory in a penalty shootout following a goalless draw in normal time.

Senegal, on the other hand, booked their spot in the final with a dominant 4–0 win over Morocco.

Goalkeeper Hamidu Kasumba emerged as the hero for Uganda. Coming on in the final minute of the match, he made an immediate impact by saving two crucial penalties to send his team through.

Edema Bashir, Kombi Eze, Frank Musisi, and Akram Ssenyonga all converted their penalties, while Elisa Mukasa’s effort struck the woodwork.

Like Senegal, this marks Uganda’s first-ever appearance in the final of the competition.

This will be the third meeting between Uganda and Senegal. Their previous two encounters ended goalless in normal time. The first was in 2024 in Tanzania during a Group B clash, which ended 0–0. The most recent meeting was last year in Ghana at the semi-final stage, where Senegal won 6–5 on penalties after another goalless draw.

Interestingly, two of the previous three finals in this championship have been decided by penalty shootouts. Guinea won in Durban in 2023, while Tanzania claimed victory in Ghana.

“The feeling is so good that we have made it to the final. Last year, we bowed out at the semi-final stage on penalties,” said Hassan Zzungu, head coach of Uganda.

“We shall go and fight to ensure we return home victorious. Senegal has played in all editions, and we know it will not be an easy game. They are physically strong, but we shall approach the game accordingly,” he added.
