Vipers SC needed a late goal from Gusto Mulongo to overcome Calvary in a Uganda Premier League match played under the floodlights at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Saturday.
Mulongo struck with four minutes remaining to secure a narrow victory and maintain Vipers’ four-point lead at the top of the table.
Vipers delivered a dominant performance from the start but struggled to convert their chances, with Calvary goalkeeper Hadji Shukuru producing two outstanding saves to deny Beyuku Munsi and Rogers Torach.
Dasylva also came close to breaking the deadlock, but his effort struck the post as the hosts continued to search for the opening goal.
The decisive moment arrived in the 86th minute when two substitutes combined to produce the winner. Yunus Ssentamu made a well-timed run into the box before setting up Gusto Mulongo, who calmly slotted the ball into the net to send the home fans into celebration.

Mulongo’s goal proved enough as Vipers edged past Calvary to collect three vital points at home.
Despite sitting at the bottom of the table, Calvary put up a strong fight against the league leaders. Their confidence may have been boosted by the first-leg encounter, where the two sides played out a goalless draw in Midigo.
The victory restores Vipers’ four-point cushion at the top of the standings, ahead of second-placed Kitara, who have 47 points.
Calvary remain rooted at the bottom of the table with only five points, and relegation appears increasingly inevitable.
Vipers will now turn their attention to the Uganda Cup, where they are set to host Iganga United on Wednesday, 18 March 2026.
Elsewhere, Express ended their seven-match winless run with a 3–1 victory over URA FC at Nakivubo.
