Vipers SC defeated Iganga United 4-0 on Wednesday evening to storm into the quarterfinals of the 52nd edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

In a match played under the floodlights at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, defender Hilary Mukundane and forward Gusto Mulongo each scored a brace to seal a comfortable victory for the hosts as they became the fifth team to reach the last eight.

Just eight minutes into the game, Mukundane headed home from a well-delivered corner by Yunus Sentamu to give Vipers the lead.

Despite creating several scoring opportunities, Vipers failed to extend their advantage and went into halftime with a narrow 1-0 lead.

In the second half, substitute Gusto Mulongo doubled the lead in the 83rd minute with a clinical finish, courtesy of an incisive through ball from in-form Karim Watambala.

Two minutes later, Mulongo struck again to make it 3-0, marking his third goal in two matches across all competitions.

Mukundane sealed the victory in stoppage time, scoring his second goal of the match to make it 4-0 and cap off a dominant performance.

The Venoms advance to the quarterfinals as they continue their quest to defend the title.

The Kitende-based side joins KCCA FC, NEC FC, Kitara FC, and Happy Boys Kagaba among the teams that have already secured quarterfinal places.

The Uganda Cup Round of 16 continues tomorrow, with SC Villa hosting Maroons FC at 8 p.m. at FUFA Technical Centre, Kadiba.
