UPL: BUL Wary of Tough Maroons Test in Luzira

MD 22 Fixtures (Wednesday)

Maroons FC vs BUL FC – Luzira, 4pm
Express FC vs Police FC – Nakivubo, 8pm

The Uganda Premier League resumes this Wednesday after a three-week break, which included the international window, during which Uganda did not play, and Uganda Cup fixtures.

BUL FC will visit Maroons FC at the Maroons Stadium in Luzira for a Matchday 22 encounter scheduled for 4pm.

Heading into the fixture, BUL played out a draw with Mbarara City, while Maroons were also held by UPDF FC in their most recent league outings.

In the reverse fixture, Ibrahim Mugulusi scored the decisive goal to hand BUL a narrow victory.

In attack, Karim Ndugwa, who has scored seven goals this season, and Jeromy Kirya with four goals are expected to lead BUL’s hunt for goals.

For the hosts, Ivan Asaba, also on four goals, and Raymond Walugembe, who has netted three times, will be key in search of goals.

Historically, BUL have dominated this fixture, winning 10 matches, drawing five, and losing only twice against Maroons in all competitions.

Despite this strong record, BUL head coach David Isabirye acknowledges the challenge of playing away in Luzira.

“It has been difficult for us over the seasons to win against Maroons in Luzira, but I have prepared my boys for this mission over the past three weeks. I expect to make some changes to ensure we win this game,” said Isabirye.

The Eastern Giants have managed just one away victory against Maroons, dating back to 2018, when Deogratious Ojok and Hamisi Tibita scored, while Herman Wasswa netted for the hosts.

Maroons’ two wins over BUL have both come at their home ground in Luzira, underlining their strength on home turf.

Coach Isabirye also confirmed that Alex Kitata and Isaac Musiima will miss the trip due to injury.

After 21 matches, BUL sit eighth on the table with 30 points, while Maroons are ninth with 26 points.

A win for BUL would see them complete a league double over Maroons for the first time since the 2018/19 season.

With both sides already eliminated from the Uganda Cup, their focus now shifts to securing a strong finish in the league standings.
