2026 AFCON U-17: Uganda Name Travelling Squad for Morocco Tournament

The Uganda U-17 national team head coach, Laryea Kingston, has named the travelling squad ahead of the 2026 AFCON U-17 tournament in Morocco.

Owen Mukisa of Vipers SC Junior Team has been appointed team captain, while Liam Karissa Kankaka of Oxford United is also included in the squad.

The team is scheduled to depart the country this evening and will set up camp in Casablanca, Morocco.

While in Casablanca, the Uganda Cubs will play two international friendly matches against Mozambique and Mali on May 5 and May 9, respectively, as part of their preparations.

Uganda was drawn in Group B alongside Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, and DR Congo.

Laryea Kingston shared his thoughts ahead of the tournament:

“There is more room for improvement, but from where we are, we have so much confidence in the team. Whatever we ask them to do, they are doing it now, as the boys are taking responsibility. They are finding solutions and solving problems on the pitch. For me, we are moving in the right direction.

“We will use the remaining time to assess our opponents and test our approach in the friendly matches. We want the boys to be sharp in the preparatory games and remain fresh for the tournament.”

The 2026 AFCON U-17 will kick off on May 13 in Morocco.

All quarter-finalists will qualify directly for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, while two additional teams will secure qualification through playoffs.

Last year, Uganda qualified for the FIFA U-17 World Cup after edging The Gambia in the playoffs.
