REPORTS: Rogers Mato Takes Former Club FK Vardar to Court Over Unpaid Wages

Uganda Cranes forward Rogers Mato has reportedly taken his former club, FK Vardar, to court over alleged unpaid salaries.

According to reports from Terrabyte Media, Mato is demanding three months’ worth of unpaid wages from the North Macedonian club and has initiated legal proceedings to recover the money.

The former KCCA FC forward currently plays for Scottish Premiership side Hearts of Midlothian, having joined the club in January 2026 from FK Vardar.

However, FK Vardar sporting director Milenko Nedelkovski has strongly denied the allegations, insisting that the club has no outstanding financial obligations.

“We are debt-free and don’t owe a penny to anyone,” Nedelkovski said.

He further defended the club’s position, pointing to Mato’s development during his time at Vardar.

“Rogers Mato came to us for free. Two years ago, the club had debts of £10 million, and now there is nothing. No one knew who he was then, but he turned out to be a good player for us,” he stated.

Nedelkovski also maintained that the club met all its obligations during Mato’s transfer to Hearts.

“Mato had a contract with us, and we received financial compensation when he left. When he left, it was his job to negotiate and ours to secure money for the club, and we succeeded in that,” he added.

Mato joined Hearts midway through the 2025-26 season but has found playing time difficult to come by since his arrival in Scotland.

Despite his limited appearances, the Scottish club is understood to remain confident in the 22-year-old forward’s potential and is expected to retain him for the upcoming season.

The matter is now expected to be resolved through the appropriate legal channels as both parties maintain differing positions regarding the alleged unpaid wages.
