Two Uganda Premier League Stadiums Cleared for Night Games

Two stadiums have been cleared to host night games under floodlights during the first round of the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season.

According to fixtures released by the Uganda Premier League Secretariat and seen by Sports Light Uganda, St Mary’s Stadium and Hamz Stadium have been approved to host matches under floodlights.

St Mary’s Stadium, home of defending champions Vipers SC, and Hamz Stadium, which will host three Premier League clubs — Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) FC, Express FC and Entebbe UPPC — are among the venues approved for night fixtures.

During the 2025/26 season, four stadiums hosted Uganda Premier League matches under floodlights: St Mary’s Stadium, Hamz Stadium, FUFA Stadium Kadiba and MTN Omondi Stadium.

The night fixtures attracted large crowds, giving fans an opportunity to attend matches after working hours and adding a different atmosphere to the league.

However, the number of venues approved to host floodlit games has been reduced this season.

FUFA Stadium Kadiba, which was home to SC Villa, has been handed over to the National Council of Sports for redevelopment into an improved training facility ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Meanwhile, MTN Omondi Stadium, which hosted KCCA FC and NEC FC last season, failed to meet the minimum 800-lux illumination requirement for night matches and will therefore host games at 4:00pm.

According to the released fixtures, defending champions Vipers SC will begin their title defence against newly promoted Entebbe UPPC at St Mary’s Stadium on August 28 at 8:00pm.
