Vipers Beat Kitara to Add FUFA Super Cup to Trophy Cabinet

FUFA Super Cup 2026/27
Date: August 22, 2026

Vipers SC 3-1 Kitara FC
Venue: Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo

Vipers SC have been crowned champions of the 2026/27 FUFA Super Cup after defeating Kitara FC 3-1 at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Saturday evening.

Goals from Odili Chukwuma, Abdul Karim Watambala and Gusto Mulongo were enough to guide the Venoms to victory, while Kitara’s new signing Martin Kizza scored their only goal of the game.

The encounter brought together last season’s Uganda Premier League champions, Vipers, and Uganda Cup winners, Kitara, in a traditional curtain-raiser ahead of the new domestic season.

Chukwuma gave Vipers the lead in the 32nd minute when he headed home a well-delivered cross from Gusto Mulongo, giving the champions a 1-0 advantage at half-time.

Kitara levelled the scores on the hour mark through Kizza, who marked his debut with a goal and gave his side renewed hope of completing a comeback.

However, Vipers restored their lead just eight minutes later when Watambala tapped home a well-placed pass from Marvin Youngman.

Mulongo then put the icing on the cake late in the game, heading home from a well-delivered free-kick by Farouk Miya to seal a comfortable victory for the Venoms.

The triumph provides a major boost for Vipers as they prepare for a demanding campaign that includes continental football and the Uganda Premier League, which kicks off on August 28.

For Kitara, the match served as an important test for Wasswa Bbosa’s side as they prepare for the new season and their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
