Amus Success a Testament to Consistency and Investment

Amus College School’s rise to prominence in Ugandan schools football is a testament to consistency, patience and sustained investment in talent development.

The school’s football journey began in 2014, laying the foundation for what would later become one of the strongest forces in Ugandan schools football.

The breakthrough came in 2022 when the girls won their first national qualifiers for the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship. They went on to represent Uganda at the CECAFA level, where they secured a bronze medal, marking the beginning of Amus College’s emergence on the regional stage.

In 2023, the boys also announced their arrival on the national scene, finishing third in the National Boys Football Championship, while the girls went a step further to win the national girls’ football title.

From there, Amus College steadily grew into a serious contender, challenging schools that had traditionally dominated the schools football landscape, including St Mary’s Kitende and Buddo SS.

In 2024, the school came close to claiming the national boys’ title but fell to St Julian in the final, losing 3-0. The team also competed at the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship but could not secure the title.

However, the year still produced a major achievement as Amus College won the FEASSA Games, which the school co-hosted alongside Bukedea Comprehensive School.

In 2025, the school returned to the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship and reached the final, where they lost to St Mary’s Kitende.

This year, Amus returned to the national stage with both the boys and girls teams. The boys defeated St Mary’s Kitende in the national final to reclaim the national title and earn another opportunity to represent Uganda at the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship CECAFA Qualifiers. The girls also secured the national title, defeating St Noa Girls Zana in the final. Amus therefore became the first school to win both boys’ and girls’ national CAF Schools titles in the same edition.

At the CECAFA Qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda, Amus College showed that the national success was no coincidence. The boys produced an unbeaten campaign, opening with a 1-0 victory over South Sudan before defeating Burundi 3-0. They then drew 0-0 with Somalia to finish their group campaign unbeaten.

In the semi-finals, Amus stepped up their performance with a 3-1 victory over Tanzania, setting up a regional final against hosts Rwanda. In front of a home crowd, Amus held their nerve and secured a 1-0 victory through Kennedy Okwi’s goal, becoming CECAFA boys’ champions and earning Uganda a place at the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship continental finals.

The regional triumph was another clear indication of the progress made by the school. From finishing third in 2022 to becoming CECAFA champions four years later, Amus has steadily transformed itself from an emerging school into a force capable of competing at the highest level of schools football.

The success is not overnight. It is the product of years of investment, consistency, development and belief in the school’s football programme.

Amus College has now qualified for the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship continental finals in the boys’ category, taking another major step in a journey that began in 2014.
