Ahimbisibwe Returns to KCCA After 35 Days

Uganda Cranes striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe has completed a dramatic return to KCCA FC, just 35 days after leaving the club for Iraq, in a move that could provide a major boost to the Kasasiro Boys’ attack.

According to senior journalist and football agent Ronnie Santos, Ahimbisibwe has rejoined KCCA FC on a two-and-a-half-year employment contract with the Lugogo-based side.

The lethal striker left KCCA FC in August this year to join Iraqi side Zhako SC, but his stay in Iraq has ended prematurely.

It is believed that Zhako failed to meet the contractual terms agreed with Ahimbisibwe’s camp, forcing the two parties to terminate the agreement and leaving the striker a free agent.

Vipers SC also attempted to sign Ahimbisibwe and reportedly tabled a better offer than KCCA FC. However, the striker opted to return to his former paymasters.

His relationship with current KCCA FC head coach Brian Ssenyondo is believed to have played a key role in his decision to choose the Kasasiro Boys over the Venoms.

Ahimbisibwe has previously worked with Ssenyondo at different clubs, including KCCA FC, and the existing relationship could help him settle quickly upon his return to Lugogo.

At Vipers, Ahimbisibwe would have faced stiff competition for a starting position, with Cesar Manzoki, Yunus Sentamu, Gusto Mulongo and Isaac Ogwang all part of the Venoms’ attacking options.

The striker’s decision was also influenced by the need to consider his international ambitions ahead of the upcoming AFCON qualifiers and the final tournament next year, rather than making a decision based solely on financial terms.

Ahimbisibwe returns to KCCA as a proven goalscorer. Last season, he won the Uganda Premier League Golden Boot after scoring 14 league goals.

His return also comes at a time when KCCA FC have struggled for consistency at the beginning of the 2026-27 campaign.

The Kasasiro Boys have won once, drawn once and lost twice in their opening four matches, with their only victory coming in a narrow 1-0 win over newcomers Kataka FC on Matchday 4.

The timing of Ahimbisibwe’s return could therefore prove important for KCCA FC, with the league currently on an international break. The pause will give him time to regroup with the squad, adapt to the team’s current setup and prepare for the remainder of the campaign.

The former URA man is expected to begin training with KCCA FC next week, with his first game of the season set to come against his former club URA FC on October 9 at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
