Air Badminton Set to Drive Shuttle Time Expansion Across Uganda

Air Badminton is set to become a key component of the Shuttle Time programme as Badminton Uganda seeks to expand the sport to more parts of the country.

In an effort to widen the reach of badminton in Uganda, the governing body is relying on Air Badminton to take the sport to communities across the country through the Shuttle Time programme.

Despite the continued shortage of sports equipment in Uganda, Badminton Uganda has continued to expand its programmes, with Chief Executive Officer Simon Mugabi explaining the association’s focus.

“The Shuttle Time programme is looking at the development of Air Badminton and teaching skills to technical officials so that they can manage their tournaments and programmes, even when the national organisation is not on the ground,” said Mugabi.

The association recently concluded a two-week tour during which more than 170 sports teachers were equipped with skills to prepare their students for badminton activities, particularly Air Badminton, which is designed to be played in outdoor environments.

The workshops were held in the Busoga region, with sessions in Kamuli District attracting sports teachers from Namutumba, Buyende, Luuka, Mayuge, Bugweri, Bugiri and Kamuli districts.

Following the conclusion of the programme during the last weekend of August 2026, Badminton Uganda will now shift its focus to the Bunyoro region.

The association is targeting districts including Hoima, Kibaale and other neighbouring areas as it continues its efforts to take badminton to more schools and communities across the country.
