Allan Kateregga Sends Emotional Message to Former Speaker Anita Among Over Support for Ugandan Football
Uganda Cranes midfielder Allan Kateregga has delivered a heartfelt message to former Speaker of the 11th Parliament of Uganda, Anita Annet Among, in appreciation of her continued support towards football in Uganda.
Kateregga shared the message through his social media accounts following Anita Among’s departure from the position of Speaker of Parliament.
In his message, the former Uganda Cranes midfielder praised Among for her long-standing contribution to football development in the country.
“Dear Right Honourable Anita Annet Among, during this time of retrospective turmoil, I, on behalf of so many Ugandan football players, take this opportunity to thank you for what you have done for football at all levels,” Kateregga wrote.
“Your influence goes way back before you became Deputy Speaker of Parliament. You, together with other Honourable members of the 10th Parliament, solicited funds for our AFCON qualification campaign in 2018.”
“This continued during your tenure as Deputy Speaker and later as Speaker. While we involve ourselves with analysing how and why certain events unravelled and dealing with the lingering shockwaves and structural adjustments they are going to leave behind, we pray and hope that you come out of it a victor,” he added.
Anita Among took over as Speaker of Parliament in 2022 following the death of former Speaker Jacob Oulanyah.
However, she recently stepped down from the race for the 12th Parliament amid mounting political pressure and ongoing investigations into alleged corruption and money laundering.

Among is married to Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) president Eng. Moses Magogo, and the couple have twins together.
Over the years, Among has been one of the notable supporters of football in Uganda.
In 2024, she contributed UGX 50 million towards Uganda Cranes’ FIFA World Cup qualification campaign.
During the last CHAN tournament, she also pledged a reward of USD 20,000 for every Uganda Cranes victory, a pledge reports indicate she fulfilled.
Among has also supported women’s football in Uganda. In 2023, Kampala Queens FC, a club owned by Moses Magogo, visited Parliament after winning their maiden women’s league title.
She also owns Bukedea Comprehensive School, an institution that has heavily invested in sports, particularly boys’ football, while also extending financial support to various sports institutions and individuals across the country.
Kateregga, currently playing for Police FC in Rwanda, has previously featured for clubs including KCCA FC, Tusker FC, Cape Town City FC, Erbil SC, and Maritzburg United.
The left-footed midfielder represented the Uganda national football team in several competitions, including the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
