Anyama’s Lone Goal Hands KCCA First League Victory

KCCA FC have secured their first Uganda Premier League victory of the season after beating Kataka FC 1-0 at home, courtesy of Emmanuel Anyama.

After suffering two defeats and recording one draw in their opening three league fixtures, KCCA responded with a narrow but vital victory over Kataka to secure maximum points.

The visitors created an early opportunity when Ali Ssentamu missed a golden chance to put Kataka in front.

In the 20th minute, a poor back pass from Etienne Katenga fell to Kataka’s Ali Ssentamu, who struck the ball past the goalkeeper but narrowly missed the target.

KCCA came close to breaking the deadlock in the 33rd minute when forward Sammy Ssebaduka saw his header rattle the woodwork before being cleared by Kataka’s Olinga.

Seven minutes later, Ibrahim Kasule struck the woodwork from Ssebaduka’s cross, with the midfielder’s header going just wide as the first half ended goalless.

In the second half, striker Emmanuel Anyama finally broke the deadlock, finishing from a beautiful ball delivered by Sammy Ssebaduka to give the home side the lead.

Head coach Brian Ssenyondo made tactical changes to protect the narrow advantage, and KCCA managed to hold on to secure all three points.

KCCA had come under pressure after losing to NEC FC and Express FC before drawing with Kigezi HomeBoyz in their opening three fixtures.

The victory provides relief for the Kasasiro Boys heading into the international break, which could give the coaching staff time to assess and strengthen the squad.

There are also rumours that the Lugogo-based side could reunite with striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe before the closure of the transfer window on September 19.

In their next game, Kataka will host SC Villa on October 7, while two days later, KCCA FC will visit URA FC.

Elsewhere, Police FC beat Lugazi FC 2-0 on the road, while Mbarara City and Entebbe UPPC played out a 0-0 draw in Kamwenge.

Matchday 4 continues on Thursday as Express FC host Kitara FC under the floodlights at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, while Maroons FC visit UPDF FC in the early kick-off.
