Bowling and Batting Shine as Baby Victoria Pearls Beat Malawi to Reach Africa Division One Qualifiers

The Baby Victoria Pearls produced a dominant all-round performance against Malawi, with both their bowling and batting departments impressing as Uganda secured a 10-wicket victory to reach the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup Africa Division One Qualifiers.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Uganda’s bowlers quickly took control, bowling Malawi out for 44 runs in 16 overs.

Sarah Tino was once again outstanding with the ball, claiming three wickets to take her tally to 10 wickets in three matches. She had earlier taken five wickets against Nigeria and two against Tanzania.

Tino’s impressive performance earned her the Player of the Match award.

Divine Gabriella Nyamer also claimed three wickets, including the final wicket of Malawi’s innings, when she dismissed Bridget Kasinja, who was caught by Mischelle Ariago.

Sheilah Namagoba added two wickets as Uganda’s bowlers maintained their dominance throughout the innings.

In reply, the Baby Victoria Pearls were even more ruthless with the bat, completing the chase without losing a wicket.

Captain Jimia Muhammad Abdallah and Shadia Nabulime Gilingish combined to guide Uganda to 46 runs in just 7.3 overs.

Gilingish was the standout batter, scoring an impressive 30 runs from 21 balls, while captain Jimia contributed 12 runs from 24 balls.

Malawi also conceded three extras, allowing Uganda to surpass the required target of 45 runs after being set 44 for victory.

The emphatic win ensured Uganda finished the group stage strongly and secured a place in the semifinals.

Uganda’s qualification was confirmed after Nigeria defeated Tanzania by 57 runs, a result that allowed the Baby Victoria Pearls to progress to the knockout stage.

Uganda will face Zimbabwe in the semifinal on Thursday, September 3.

Zimbabwe topped Group B with three wins from three matches, defeating Kenya, Rwanda and Namibia.

In the other semifinal, Nigeria will face Rwanda, who progressed from Group B after defeating Kenya by five wickets.

Rwanda successfully chased down Kenya’s 69/9 in just 9.3 overs.

The final is scheduled for Friday, September 5, with the winner of the qualifiers securing direct qualification for the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup, which will be hosted by Bangladesh and Nepal in 2027.
