BREAKING: Uganda Cranes Friendly Against Zanzibar Cancelled

The much-anticipated international friendly match between Uganda Cranes and Zanzibar has been cancelled, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed.

The match had been scheduled for June 11, 2026, at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar as part of the Zanzibar Football Federation’s centenary celebrations.

According to FUFA, the Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) officially communicated the cancellation, citing government health precautionary directives.

In its communication to FUFA, ZFF stated:

“The decision was beyond our control. We value our friendship and remain committed to rescheduling the match soon.”

The friendly had been arranged after Uganda’s previously planned international matches against Tanzania and Madagascar in Morocco were called off.

Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put had already summoned a 22-man squad, largely composed of locally based players, in preparation for the encounter.

The match was expected to provide valuable preparation for the national team while also forming part of Zanzibar’s celebrations to mark 100 years of football administration.

It remains unclear when the fixture will be rescheduled, but both federations have expressed their commitment to arranging the match at a later date.
