Clubs Begin Squad Rebuild as Uganda Transfer Window Officially Opens
The transfer window in Ugandan football officially opened on Wednesday, July 1, with clubs beginning preparations to strengthen their squads ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The registration period will remain open until September 19, allowing clubs to sign and register both local and foreign players, as well as members of their technical staff.
The window comes at a crucial time as clubs prepare for a busy campaign that includes the Uganda Premier League, Stanbic Uganda Cup, FUFA Super 8, FUFA Super Cup, Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League, FUFA Big League and other domestic competitions.
Some clubs will also be balancing regional and continental commitments. Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC will compete in the CECAFA Kagame Club Cup before representing Uganda in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League.
Uganda Cup winners Kitara FC will feature in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Meanwhile, Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC will represent Uganda at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers, scheduled to take place in Rwanda from August 22.
Several clubs have already been active in the transfer market despite the window only officially opening.
Vipers SC parted ways with title-winning coach Jacky Minnaert and appointed experienced French tactician Denis Lavagne as his successor.
The Venoms are also reported to have secured the signings of Joel Sserunjogi from KCCA FC and Nicholas Mwere from BUL FC.

KCCA FC have unveiled midfielder Elvis Ngonde, who joined from rivals SC Villa on a three-year contract. The Kasasiro Boys have also boosted their preparations for the new season by acquiring a new team bus.
The club has, however, lost last season’s Uganda Premier League Golden Boot winner Ivan Ahimbisibwe, who has completed a move to Iraqi side Zhako SC.
URA FC have appointed Jimmy Kintu as head coach and Godfrey Magoba as first assistant coach. The Tax Collectors are also expected to unveil former Kampala Queens assistant coach Sharon Kizza Aceng as their second assistant coach.
UPDF FC have confirmed the appointment of Hussein Mbalangu as their new head coach, replacing Alex Gita.
Uganda Premier League newcomers Ntugasaze FC have named Pius Ngabo as head coach, with Dudu Bosco joining his technical team.
The club has also signed Jimmy Ndalambi from Kiyinda Boys and attacker Kevin Tevin Kyeyune from CATDA, while confirming a partnership with She MUBS as their women’s team affiliate.
Fellow newcomers Kigezi HomeBoyz have appointed Joseph Harold Mutyaba as head coach, replacing Sadick Ssempigi, who guided the club to a historic promotion to the Uganda Premier League.
Lugazi FC have also made changes to their technical bench after parting ways with head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa and assistant coach Robert Sekweyama.
The club has since appointed Abbey Kikomeko as head coach, with Bashir Ssemuyaba serving as his assistant.
Entebbe UPPC are also reported to have completed the signing of defender Grant Matsiko from Vipers SC on a two-year contract.
BUL FC have undertaken a major squad overhaul after releasing 10 players at the end of last season, including Nicholas Mwere, Jeromy Kirya, Karim Ndugwa, Isaac Wagoina, Ibrahim Orit, Viane Ssekajugo, among others.
The Eastern Giants have already strengthened their squad with the arrivals of George Kaddu, George Masembe, Faizo Matovu and other new signings.
The 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season is scheduled to kick off on August 28, while the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League will begin on September 12. The FUFA Big League season will start on September 20.
Before then, the FUFA Super 8 tournament is set to commence on August 1, while the FUFA Super Cup between league champions Vipers SC and Uganda Cup holders Kitara FC will be played on August 23, five days before the start of the new league season.
FUFA has urged all clubs to submit the required club licensing documentation within the stipulated timelines to ensure a smooth registration process ahead of the new campaign.
