Substitute Ddungu Derrick opened his account for the season as Express FC secured a deserved 2–0 victory over KCCA FC in a Uganda Premier League encounter at Nakivubo Stadium on Thursday night.
Ddungu, commonly known as Rickman, came off the bench in the second half and sealed the victory with a goal in added time.
The forward capitalised on a mistake by KCCA goalkeeper Mutwalib Mugolofa, who failed to deal with Shafik Batambuze’s free-kick. Ddungu showed composure before squeezing the ball into the net to send the home fans into wild celebrations.
Isaac Wagoina had earlier put Express ahead as the Red Eagles claimed three important points.
It was an impressive display from Express, who were playing their first home game of the season under new head coach Morley Byekwaso.
Despite introducing several new faces, just as they did in their opening match against BUL FC, Express looked far more organised against KCCA and grew stronger as the game progressed.
After a goalless first half, Express returned from the break the better side, and their pressure paid off five minutes after the restart.
Wagoina received a neat pass from Steven Yiga before calmly finding the back of the net to give Express the lead.
The Red Eagles had several opportunities to extend their advantage but were wasteful in front of goal.
Substitute Henry Wamala missed an excellent opportunity with only the goalkeeper to beat, while Alpha Ssali and Yiga also came close to adding to Express’ tally.

However, the decisive moment arrived in added time when Ddungu put the icing on the cake with a composed finish, sparking wild celebrations among the home supporters.
The victory moves Express FC into sixth position with three points and gives them their first win of the season.
For KCCA FC, it was a second consecutive defeat of the campaign, increasing the pressure on head coach Brian Ssenyondo as his side remains at the bottom of the table.
